Orton had been advised by wrestling legend Billy Graham to go where no wrestler has gone before. Randy then thought of the way to do it: Beat the Undertaker at Wrestlemania.
Of course, Undertaker was a legend, but Randy was a legend killer. His courage was quickly eradicated whenever signs of the Undertaker's arrival were present, immediately running away. He ended up finding more courage as his role as a heel deepened when he delivered the RKO to Jake "The Snake" Roberts.
He became more defiant and stood toe to toe with the Undertaker in a fantastic match at Wrestlemania. However, despite his father's interference in the match, Orton failed in ending the undefeated streak. He came damn close when he countered the Undertaker's choke slam into an RKO. Definitely one of history's greatest Wrestlemania highlights.

However, that wasn't the end—not by a long shot.
Things settled down between them during the summer. Undertaker was in a number one contender's match against JBL and would've won too, if it hadn't been for that meddling kid and his stupid RKO.
That led to another great match at SummerSlam, in which Orton avenged the Wrestlemania loss.
But WWE kept spoiling us as the feud intensified. The mind games leading up to the next pay-per-view saw some of the best mind games the WWE has ever produced. No one will ever forget Randy "retiring" just to get a surprise attack on the Undertaker.

Next up was No Mercy, in which the Undertaker faced both Randy and his father Cowboy Bob Orton in a handicapped casket match. Randy and his father won, but after the match the father and son poured gasoline on the casket and lit it on fire.

Fast Forward three months: Shawn Michaels has turned around to receive a viscous RKO from Randy Orton. After the pin, Randy is mobbed by other Smackdown superstars as he has just won the match for team Smackdown.
The celebration began, but as soon as Randy was lifted in the air by his Smackdown colleagues, *Dong* At first, Orton doesn't hear it, he just keeps on laughing and celebrating. *Dong* |
This time, Orton hears it. The smile quickly fades from his face and is replaced by a look of fear. He is set down and joins the Smackdown roster in the ring, looking confused and wondering what is going on.
Suddenly, you hear a low singing. A chant, that gets louder as hooded people enter the arena from the stage, pushing a casket. They push the casket upright and leave.

Nothing happens at first, the arena goes silent and Orton stands there looking like he has seen a ghost.
*Lightning*
Lightning strikes the casket and sets it aflame. The door of the casket is pushed down and in the midst of the flames stands the dead man. The Undertaker has returned!
Orton didn't back down however. He may have used sneaky tactics, but he did not back down. When the Undertaker went to the ring to deliver a promo, he was given a surprise RKO by the Legend Killer following a distraction by one of his druids. That druid turned out to be Cowboy Bob Orton, who then gave the Undertaker's mystical urn to Orton.
It was time for one last match between these two performers. The Undertaker got the last laugh by defeating both Ortons in a brutal Hell in a Cell match, ending the feud.
